![]() I know some do turn off Iridient sharpening in X-Transformer and I chose to allow the user complete control over disabling much of the functionality in X-Transformer, however I feel strongly for most people that turning off sharpening is tossing out perhaps the very best feature of Iridient X-Transformer. A decision I definitely don't regret as C1 does a great job with X-trans files and I also think it's overall a better program than LR. I previously used LR6 + X-transformer, but I got tired of converting the files so I switched to C1. People might be able to show you what they get from x-transformer. Why don't you post the raw along with your results from C1. Just my personal finding, and yes I compared it against C1. Personally I haven't found anything that can beat X-Transformer for detail. Thomas Fitzgerald is now recommending Capture One Pro as the absolute best. Iridient Developer is not as fully featured and hasn't had any significant updates in quite some time, so you're better off using it in connection with Lightroom." "I also don't recommend Iridient Developer any more, because, in my opinion, X-Transformer and Lightroom are a better combination. ![]() The Best Way to Process Fuji Raw Files in 2020 I use X-Transformer but not LR or any Adobe products. Understanding the Difference between Iridient Developer and Iridient X-Transformer You can then work with Lightroom, for example as if it’s a RAW file. By using the DNG format, you get a file that is effectively as editable as the original RAW file but you are using X-Transformer’s engine to handle the conversion. It takes the core processing engine from Iridient Developer and uses it to basically pre-process your RAW files to convert them into DNGs. " X-Transformer is actually really clever in what it does. So in a nutshell, Iridient Developer is a complete editing solution, while X-Transformer is designed to work as a companion to other software such as Lightroom" Doing this preserves a degree of editability of the RAW file, but allows you to use Iridient’s conversion engine to handle the demosaicing and should you choose, sharpening and noise reduction. Iridient X-Transformer, on the other hand, is basically the core processing engine stripped of its interface, and it is designed primarily to convert your Fuji Raw files into DNGs using Iridient’s own conversion engine. "Basically, Iridient Developer, which has been around for a while is a fully featured raw conversion and editing application. But I believe Brian has stated that there is more flexibility in the developer than Tranformer. I don't know X-Trasformer since use a Mac and use the developer. Since C1 seems to have developed a relationship with Fuji, one would expect it to be quiet good with XTrans and it is. Iridient developer has a lot of options that on some difficult files give you more flexibility. The good news on really tough files if I don't find C1 to be sufficient I can export the file to Iridient from inside C1, develop it and then save it back to my C1 session, all seamless. However, I have found that C1 and Iridient Developer (Mac only) give extremely good results. I have never been an Adobe fan and have used C1 (or DXO Pro) ever since I got my first digital camera. ![]() So the question is: Am I wasting my time with DNGs and LR6? Is it even possible to get a DNG that's as "processable" as the RAF? I finally settled on the "best" DNG settings, but the fine-scale detail in the final image is still not quite as good as the C1 processed RAF. ![]() To complete the test I generated multiple DNGs of the same image using a variety of different settings in X-Transformer and processed in both LR and C1. ![]() The LR images look smeary and have that kind of fake water-color painting effect going on. I found the results from C1 to be much better, especially in areas of high detail and low contrast, such as foliage. Initially I was happy with the results but then I had a go with the RAFs in Capture One Express using essentially the same develop settings. Longtime LR6 user here and keen to keep that going despite my X100V arriving yesterday, but LR6 won't recognize the RAFs.īased on recommendations from this forum I used Iridient X-Transformer to generate DNGs and developed in LR. ![]()
